Collaborate safely

Matey is a place where you can create ambitiously with the help of those around you. We want to support creators by giving them a platform to collaborate and manage their projects to completion.

We encourage all artistic views and perspectives. To ensure a safe environment where everyone can express themselves, we take hate speech very seriously. Messages or content that promotes violence towards an individual or group based on race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, disease, religion or political affiliation will not be tolerated. If you are creating an environment where others feel endangered based on the above attributes, we will consider that in violation of our guidelines and delete your account.

Targeting private individuals maliciously with threats, doxxing, blackmail or sending unwanted spam messages is also prohibited.

Harmful, dangerous and violent content

We do not tolerate the encouragement of violent acts. Messages or content meant to incite violence, illegal activity or other dangerous acts will be removed and your account will be deleted. If you are posting this kind of content in a way that condemns such actions, please mark it as explicit. There is a difference between including this kind of content in your art for narrative means and using it to incite real-world violence. If you see this kind of content in any projects, events, or portfolios please report it to us and we will investigate accordingly.

Nudity and sexual content

We support artists who use the human body in their art. That being said, we do not allow pornographic, violent, or fetishistic content on Matey. Sharing content that includes nudity for artistic or educational reasons can be allowed, but please mark it as explicit.

Age limit

To keep our users safe, you must be 18 years or older to use Matey. Our platform encourages users to collaborate and meet in person. For that reason, minors should not be on the platform. If you suspect a user is underage, please report them. We will review their account and delete it accordingly. You must also be 18 years or older to consent to releasing your personal data.

Catfishing

Please do not make an account to impersonate others. If we suspect you of impersonating someone else, your account will be deleted. If you think you are being impersonated, please report the account and send us a message using the in-app messenger. We will investigate and disable their account accordingly.

Spam, scams and safety

We want you to meet other awesome artists and create genuine relationships. Please have real conversations and don’t send repeated unwanted messages or spam to other users. If you are receiving these kinds of messages or see any suspicious projects or events, please report them and we will investigate accordingly.

Copyrights and trademarks

Please don’t post stolen content or content you don’t have the right to share. In the case where you want to post someone else’s content, ask permission first and provide proper credit. When working on a project, get permission from your project admin before sharing any information or content from the project. We will remove any reported content that infringes intellectual property at our sole discretion.

Privacy

Please don’t post personal information of other users or third parties without their explicit permission. If someone has posted your private information without your consent, please ask them to remove it. If that doesn’t work or you don’t feel comfortable contacting them, report their profile immediately and send us a message in the in-app messenger. We will investigate and delete their account accordingly.

Please be careful when giving your personal information to strangers. If you don’t feel comfortable with the person, do not share your personal information.

Security

Please don’t attempt to attack our servers. This includes DDoS attacks and load testing. Botting is also prohibited. If we suspect you of doing so, we will delete your account. If you suspect a user is not following our community guidelines, please report them so we can investigate accordingly.

Penalties and violations

To maintain a safe space for our diverse community, members can report instances where our guidelines are being violated. We review reports for accuracy and waive inaccurate filings. Reports on members that are in violation will receive a strike, suspension or deletion at our discretion. 

Strikes

Strikes are warnings members receive when violating the community guidelines. Members who receive a strike are informed of their specific violation. All members are able to monitor their community standing, including their strikes and suspensions, from their account settings. Members can receive up to three active strikes until their account is temporarily suspended. Strikes expire after 30 days.

Suspensions

When suspended, members cannot access specific features for 30 days. These features include initiating conversations with other members, creating projects, and posting new portfolio content. If a member violates the community guidelines during the 30 day period, their account will be scheduled for permanent deletion.

Deletion

Members who receive an additional strike during their 30 day suspension are scheduled for deletion. Their account is permanently deleted 30 days after initial scheduling. Members will receive a reason for deletion, including the date of deletion and option to appeal. Appeals are reviewed and deletion may be canceled or kept at our discretion. There are rare occasions where a member who is in strong violation of our community guidelines can be scheduled for deletion without first receiving three strikes and a suspension. We may also delete active projects and activities that violate our community guidelines and apply strikes at our discretion.

We strive to keep all members on the platform while maintaining a code of conduct. That is why we built a transparent system that informs violators in an effort to help them improve their conduct. We hope these policies provide a strong foundation for our growing community.
